What can I get notarized?

The basic notarial acts in Washington State include:

  • Taking an Acknowledgment

  • Witnessing or Attesting a Signature

  • Administering an Oath or Affirmation

  • Taking a Verification of an Oath or Affirmation

  • Certifying or Attesting a Copy

  • Certifying or Noting a Protesting a Copy of a Negotiable Instrument

  • Certifying an Event has Occurred or an Act has Been Performed

What a notary public cannot do:

In Washington State, a Notary Public is forbidden to:

  • Assist persons in drafting legal records, give legal advice, or practice law

  • Act as an immigration consultant or an expert on immigration matters

  • Represent a person in a judicial or administrative proceeding relating to immigration to the United States, or any related matters

  • Provide court reporting services

  • Operate under the title "notario" or "notario publico"

What do I need to have ready?

After scheduling your appointment:

  • ​Invoice​​

    • Your Notary Public from The Friendly Seal will email you an invoice ahead of your appointment. ​Please respond via email that you accept the charges. Washington State law requires charges to be agreed upon by both parties before notarial acts can be conducted.

    • Your Notary Public will collect payment during the appointment and will email you a receipt afterwards.

On the day of your appointment, please have prepared:

  • All documents needing notarization, to include a notarial certificate​​

    • The Friendly Seal is ​not authorized to suggest or advise customers on what the notarial certificate should say. This can be considered legal advice and is prohibited by RCW 42.45.230

  • Form of payment

    • We accept cash, check, or card
